About Us
The Initiative
Through the Public Service Capacity for Local Governments Initiative, the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), the Department of Human Resources, the Northwest Territories Association of Communities (NWTAC) and the Local Government Administrators of the Northwest Territories (LGANT) have implemented a series of programs and services to address challenges in the area of recruitment and retention of key senior administrative staff.
How We Get There
Advancing Local Government Administrators Program (ALGAP): flagship program offering support that targets community governments who are experiencing a Local Government Administrator (LGA) vacancy, retiring/departing LGA, or developing LGA.
Community-Assessments: a local government assessment tool to identify strengths, challenges and areas that need work.
Mentorship Program: a formal mentorship program where developing LGAs can seek advice and guidance from experienced and knowledgeable LGAs.
Good Governance: developing the skills and competencies of local government elected leaders to build their vision, lead effectively and develop productive working relationships with senior staff.
Local Government Administrators Toolkits: a handbook and CD containing key information for LGAs in the NWT.
Online Resources: information centrally located at 33strong.com with links to programs and partners.
Professional Resource Pools: access to contract expertise that local governments can use for general management.
Professional Workshops: ongoing professional development for LGAs.
Recognition Programs: Awards of Excellence Program – Recognition of an LGA.
Communications and Advertising: full utilization of the ’33 Strong’ branding of local governments, production of promotional materials and marketing
of careers at targeted local and national levels such as career events and forums.
