Occupational Certification

MACA administers certification for community government employees in the NWT. Candidates can pursue certification through:

  • on the job and in your home community with a Study Guide;
  • SCG courses where certification tests will be offered; and
  • annual review and testing sessions

Occupational Certification is based on industry-developed standards, which require an individual to complete a work experience component, knowledge examinations and a demonstration of workplace skills prior to being certified. In total, there are nine community government occupations available for certification including:

  • Senior Administrative Officer;
  • First Nations Administrator/Band Manager;
  • Housing Manager;
  • Assistant Housing Manager;
  • Community Works Foreman;
  • Finance Officer;
  • Tenant Relations Officer;
  • Recreation Coordinator; and;
  • Recreation Facility Operator.

Occupational Certification provides employees with greater mobility, increased opportunities, a sense of pride and transferable skills, enabling them to aspire to further career opportunities.
