2010 LGANT AGM & Professional Development Conference A Success!

From October 26-28, more than 28 Senior Administrative Officers and Band Managers from 23 communities attended the AGM & Professional Development Conference in Yellowknife. Professional development sessions included “Humor in the Workplace: Putting Humor to Work” by Keynote Speaker, Michael Kerr. Michael is known as “The Workplace Energizer and is a very entertaining comedian. Other sessions included “Attracting, Hiring and Retaining Talent” by Jina Johnson-Hall of the Chen Chen Stway, Squamish Nation of BC, and “Designing a Performance Management Process” presented by local talent John Carter, CEO of Yellowknives Dene First Nation. Former Deputy Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs and Human Resources of the GNWT, Debbie DeLancey, spoke about partnerships and how important it is for municipal, territorial and federal governments to work together to ensure the interests of all three levels of government are addressed for the betterment of all. Updates were also provided by government officials including Municipal & Community Affairs and many other organizations such as NWT Association of Communities, among other speakers. Attending the AGM for the first time this year was Vice-President, Jim Toye, of Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators. It’s all part of building relationships with our sister associations across Canada,” says President McKee. Members also heard reports from the President, John McKee, and Executive Director, Brian Desjardins, as well as elections took place for the Board of Directors, among other items.
