LGA Recognition Program
Recognizing an Outstanding Local Government Administrator in the NWT
This award will be presented to a Local Government Administrator in the NWT employed by a community government. The award recipient will have displayed an exceptional level of professionalism, leadership and innovation in their job, community service at a tireless level, and be considered a positive role model in his/her profession and community.
Nominees shall have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the following areas:
- Leadership, innovation, and achievement in the community government profession.
- Improvement of profession and community through their initiatives and accomplishments.
- Continuous involvement in their community through participation in volunteer groups and local initiatives.
- Held in high regard by their community government, peers and community.
- An ethical standard beyond reproach.
Eligiblity Requirements
In order to be eligible to be nominated for the LGANT Recognition of Local Government Administrator in the NWT, nominees must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Held the position of LGA for a community government in the NWT for at least 2 years.
- On the date of the nomination submission, employed by a local community government in the Northwest Territories.
Program Guidelines
Nomination Rules and Guidelines
- Anyone may nominate a LGA for this award.
- The nomination form must be submitted 
to the LGANT office by the deadline of 4:00 p.m., September 30 , 2010. Faxed or e-mailed 
submissions will be accepted.
- The nomination must, at minimum, consist of:
a) Completed nomination form;
b) Accompanying cover letter;
c) One (1) page biography of the nominee; and
d) Nomination support letter not to exceed 
five (5) double spaced pages;
Optional:
e) Three (3) letters of reference. At least 
one letter must come from a community member not employed by the nominee’s community government and at least one must come from an LGANT member. 
No letters to support the nominee shall come from immediate family, and;
f ) Up to five additional pages of support material which may include newspaper 
articles, letters of commendation, etc. - All information submitted to LGANT shall become the property of LGANT and will 
not be returned.
- All nominee information submitted will be kept strictly confidential unless the 
nominee is selected to win the award.
- Nominations received will be reviewed by an Awards of Excellence Committee consisting of LGANT members and other authorized representatives selected by the LGANT Executive Committee.
Recognition
The recipient of the award will be recognized in the following ways:
- Presented the award at the LGANT Annual General Meeting and Professional 
Development Conference President’s 
Dinner in the presence of his / her peers;
- Recognized as the Award recipient at the 
NWT Association of Communities (NWTAC) Annual General Meeting in the presence 
of elected officials;
- Be featured in an LGANT E-Brief and on the website;
- Be the subject of an LGANT press release to local and territorial media agencies throughout the Northwest Territories;
- A recognition letter will be sent from the LGANT President to the recipient’s local community government council or governing body;
- Receive a personal plaque of recognition;
- Name featured on a plaque of recognition housed at the LGANT office;
- Receive a $1,000 dollar bursary towards professional development; and
- Receive a travel subsidy to the NWTAC AGM for a recognition presentation.
