What is the Community Government Mentorship Program (CGMP)?

The Community Government Mentorship Program has been designed to provide LGAs with the opportunity to receive confidential guidance and support on community government related issues and personal development from an experienced administrator. The program is for one year and there is no cost to participate. Training will be provided to ensure you get the most out the mentorship. The LGA will work with an experienced administrator who will provide guidance and support on community government related issues and personal development.

Goals of CGMP include:

• To enable a LGA the opportunity to better understand the critical aspects of community governance, operations and administration from their peers in a mentorship setting;
• To transition knowledge, skills and best practices amongst LGAs; and
• To provide a learning and sharing environment for both the Mentor and the Mentee.

Program Guidelines

Eligibility

The program is application based and is open to any LGA who either wants to be a Mentor or a Mentee; exception being those involved in ALGAP Category 1 or 2.

The Mentor should have a minimum of three years working with a northern community government or related administrative experience. Mentees should be currently working with a northern community government.

Matching

Mentees will be provided with a short list of available Mentors and will contact the Community Government Mentorship Program Coordinator (CGMP) to discuss the best match. Contact with the Mentor will be coordinated by the CGMP Coordinator and then the Mentee/Mentor must decide if the partnership would be appropriate for them.

Training

Mentors and Mentees will be invited to attend a Mentorship Workshop that will provide program information and opportunities to learn more about the roles and responsibilities as a Mentor/Mentee.
